The New Digital SAT: Does it Apply to My College Applications?

sat May 13, 2023

Gone are the days when the SAT required students to go into a school, sit at a desk with dividers up from one student to the next, and hours taking a written test. Starting in 2023 for international students and in 2024 for Americans, the SAT will turn into a digital SAT.

If you want to know more about how to prepare for the SAT as you enter this crucial year, a college application advisor can help assist you.

Changes to the SAT

In addition to the SAT turning into a digital test, there are some other changes to be aware of. One of the best parts and changes to the SAT is the shorter test. Instead of three hours, it will only be two hours. Students will also be allowed to use graphic calculators throughout the math portion as well for faster results (to keep up with the faster test as well).

Additionally, the new test is more adaptive. The levels of questions will change based on the student's performance on the test. Students will still have to take the test in a school with a proctor but are allowed to bring their own laptops or use school-issued ones.

With these changes, the SAT is staying relevant in an age that is increasingly digital and even more so becoming test-optional. With students who are not always great test takers, this levels the playing field for all. Additionally, lower stakes in the test itself, make it much less stressful for students.

Another huge change to the digital SAT is the scoring. Instead of waiting weeks to find out their scores, students will have access to their scores within a few days of taking the test.

This allows for less stress when taking the test and applying to schools. It can also give students peace of mind that if they need to retake it, they can easily do so and will have their results quickly.

Invest in a College Advisor

It's always a good idea to use a college application advisor for guidance. They'll be able to help you figure out what you want in a college and what will work for you.

They will also be able to lay out the facts for you to help your decision when it comes to what college to apply to. They know the ins and outs of the different things to know when applying.

Using a Charlotte independent educational consultant like Clark College Consulting can help you feel better about the entire process.
